The Original Beautyblender

What

  • The revolutionary, award winning ultimate make-up sponge applicator used by countless make-up professionals and enthusiasts around the world.
  • The key to a flawless make-up look starts with a perfect makeup application. Now anyone can create the flawless look of a movie star without the pricey services of a professional make-up artist!
  • Beautyblender was created on set in Hollywood by celebrity make-up artist and beauty expert Rea Ann Silva.
  • Silva knows that the key to a perfect face is simple: a perfect blend. So forget your fingers or sharp-edged triangular sponges, these application methods waste make-up and can leave visible streaks.
  • The original beautyblender’s soft elliptical shape makes your make-up application fast, flawless and foolproof by allowing you to apply and blend foundations, concealers, mineral and cream cosmetics to hard-to-reach areas with ease. Even powder based and wet/dry cosmetics can now be applied with precision. The suede texture of the original beautyblender is sensual to the touch and the curves fit the natural contours of your face, leaving your makeup dazzling and undetectable.
  • Beautyblender is latex free, non-allergenic and odor free.

How

  • Blend your way to a flawless face! Seeing make-up is the first sign of an amateur application. Beautyblender was created without edges in order to eliminate visible lines and streaks. So go ahead, experiment fearlessly with your beautyblender and discover the many ways its unique shape will set you free!
  • Use beautyblender damp when applying wet/dry make up. To prepare your beautyblender for make-up application you must first drench it using a squeezing motion under water until it expands and is saturated with water. Next, squeeze excess water out and towel dry leaving your beautyblender feeling damp and ready for use.
  • When beautyblender is wet it is normal for it to expand to nearly twice its original size. Wash after use and place in the Beautyblender insert pedestal to dry. Beautyblender should not come in contact with extreme heat of any kind.
  • Now to apply your favourite makeup, simply introduce a small amount of make-up onto the beautyblender top or bottom surface. Bounce (stipple) the damp beautyblender softly against your skin to deposit, blend and effortlessly create an even and seamless skin texture.
  • Bouncing, called stippling in the make-up world, blends make-up without creating changes in the texture or tone of your skin. Use beautyblender’s pointed side for hard-to-reach spots like around the nose and mouth, and under the eyes. Use the round base for foundation and blush on the larger areas of your face such as your forehead, cheeks and chin. The clean and natural results are second to none!
  • If you apply make-up with your fingers you’ll find that beautyblender will smooth and refine your make-up to provide a clean finish.
  • If you have problem skin Beautyblender works to cover blemishes. Use the pointed end and the stipple and twist technique to work make-up into depressed areas of the face. The stippling and twisting action feathers out the make-up’s edges, leaving a perfect finish.

My Two Pennies Worth

  • I heard so many people talking about how great this beautyblender is. So I decided to get my hands on it.
  • The shape is unique and the colour is cute hot pink.
  • I got the beautyblender double because it’s cheaper than to get the single one.
  • The first time I was using it, I just squeezed out the water without towel drying. It turned out still too wet and thinned out my liquid foundation. So Instead of avoiding the foundation soaked up to the sponge by making it wet, I ended up using more foundation to get more coverage.
  • The second time, I towel it dried. This time it was better; it was just damp, not wet. However, it still thinned out my liquid foundation but not as bad when it was wet.
  • In conclusion, I’m not a fan of a damp sponge for liquid foundation. This damp sponge is definitely better for a thick or creamy foundation.
  • Apart from that, it’s very easy to use and definitely way quicker than using make-up brush. It crates smooth and even application, no blotches or streaks.
  • I’m not sure whether it was because of the foundation mixing with the water or not, but the sponge created dewy finish while I was using my Make Up Forever Mat Velvet+ which usually gave me a matte finish look. Hence, again I’m not a fan of. Since my skin is really oily, it made my face looking oilier even quicker.
  • Oh, don’t bother to buy cheap dupes from ebay. I got 4 of it (USD 3.98 for 2 sponges plus USD 7.98 for shipping; and USD 9.98 for the other 2 sponges). It’s just a waste of money. They felt like rubber not sponge even after being wet, way too dense. They didn’t give great result, and after the 3rd washing, they just totally unusable.
  • Now to the cleaning part. It takes time and water to clean it because it soaks up the soap so much. Even so, the foundation stain won’t be gone. It just stays there. So even though it is fresh and clean, it still looks dirty.
  • Most of the time especially when I was in a rush, I only washed it right before the next application or the next morning. I thought it was fine until I saw someone in Youtube telling that her beautyblender covered by moulds because she didn’t wash it right after using it. It looked horrible. Then I checked mine and I saw one tiny black spot on the bottom surface, just exactly the same as she described when hers started to get moulds. I think it’s because of its thickness and dense shape. So be careful and make sure to take good care of yours!
  • My beautyblender changed its shape after the 3rd washing and got peeled off in some areas after the 6th I washed it with mild liquid soap.
  • My final conclusion, I’m not really a fan of beautyblender. I think I’ll be just fine with my regular make-up sponge. I can create smooth and flawless application with it, it lasts long, I’ve never seen a mould on it, and the best thing is that it is cheap. I don’t have to feel so sorry when I have to throw it away.

Will I Repurchase?

No.

Should You Try?

  • If you really want to try it, then go for it. It does a very god job. Just don’t buy the black one because you can’t see if it gets moulds on it.
  • If you don’t want to be bothered to take a really good care of it, then just buy regular make-up sponge. Trust me, they work the same.
